Privacy Policy
How we handle subscriber data, analytics, public datasets, and privacy requests.
Summary
We collect minimal subscriber data, use Google Analytics for aggregate site measurement, and publish source-linked public datasets. You can contact us at hello@knowmoreindia.com to unsubscribe, withdraw consent, correct data, request deletion, or raise a privacy grievance.
1Who Controls This Data
Know More India is an independent civic-data project based in India. For privacy requests, withdrawals, corrections, deletion requests, or grievances, contact hello@knowmoreindia.com.
We use this inbox as the primary grievance and privacy-rights contact point. We aim to acknowledge privacy requests within 7 days and resolve them within 30 days where the request can be verified and completed.
2What Personal Data We Collect
Newsletter subscriptions: email address. The backend also supports optional name and phone fields for future contact forms, but the current public subscription form asks only for email.
Analytics and technical data: Google Analytics may process device, browser, approximate location, page-view, referrer, and interaction data. Server logs may include IP address, request path, user agent, and timestamps for security and reliability.
Public figure data: the site displays source-linked public-interest records about public figures, such as offices, party memberships, election affidavits, assets, liabilities, education, and declared criminal cases. This is separate from subscriber data and is drawn from public datasets and linked sources.
3Why We Use It
To send updates to people who subscribe.
To understand which pages are useful, diagnose reliability issues, and protect the site from abuse.
To publish and maintain source-linked civic datasets for public information and accountability.
4Legal Basis
Newsletter email processing is based on your voluntary consent when you submit the subscription form. You may withdraw that consent at any time.
Analytics, logs, security, debugging, and abuse-prevention processing are used for operating and protecting the site and understanding aggregate usage.
Public figure records are processed and displayed as source-linked public-interest information drawn from public records, official disclosures, and public datasets.
5Consent, Withdrawal, and Unsubscribe
Newsletter subscriptions are voluntary. You can withdraw consent or unsubscribe by using an unsubscribe link in an email we send, if present, or by emailing us from the subscribed address.
If you ask us to unsubscribe or delete your subscriber record, we will remove the email from the active subscriber list unless we need to retain a minimal record for legal, security, or abuse-prevention reasons.
6Processors and Third Parties
Google Analytics processes website analytics data for us. Google may process data outside India under its own infrastructure and policies.
Hosting, database, deployment, email, and security providers may process limited operational data necessary to run the site and backend.
We do not sell personal data.
7Retention
Subscriber emails are kept until you unsubscribe, ask for deletion, or the newsletter/contact purpose is discontinued.
Operational logs are retained only as long as reasonably needed for debugging, abuse prevention, security, and legal compliance.
Public figure records remain as historical public-interest data, but we correct, qualify, or remove records when a source-backed error is identified.
8Your Rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access to personal data we hold about you, correction of inaccurate data, deletion of subscriber/contact data, withdrawal of consent, and grievance redressal.
To prevent unauthorized changes, we may ask you to verify that you control the email address or identity connected to the request.
9Security and Breach Contact
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards for the scale of this project, including access controls and standard hosting/database security practices.
If you believe there is a privacy or security issue, contact hello@knowmoreindia.com with enough detail for us to investigate. If we identify a reportable breach, we will take reasonable steps to notify affected users and regulators as required by applicable law.
10Children
This site is not directed at children, and the subscription form is not intended for children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data, contact us for deletion.
11Legal Framework
This policy is intended to explain our handling of digital personal data in light of Indian privacy law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and related rulemaking material.
This page is an operational privacy notice, not legal advice. We will update it as the product, processors, or applicable rules change.
