What happened
On July 7, a road opposite Vasna's APMC Market caved in without warning, swallowing the rear half of an Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation solid-waste dumper truck mid-route. Preliminary findings point to a burst 900mm underground pipeline — one of 27 sinkholes the city has logged so far this monsoon, despite AMC having sanctioned over ₹250 crore to overhaul its drainage network under an explicit 20-year performance guarantee. No one was hurt, but traffic snarled for hours while engineers worked out how to extract a garbage truck from a hole in the ground it was never supposed to fall into. AMC has yet to clarify whether the 20-year guarantee covers eating its own fleet.
