What happened
When the YSRCP government took control of Andhra Pradesh's liquor distribution, Raj Kesireddy was the man Jagan Mohan Reddy appointed to oversee the operation — making him, in effect, AP's liquor czar. Investigators from the AP CID allege the statewide distribution network generated Rs 4,000 crore in exchequer losses and over Rs 1,000 crore in kickbacks routed through the system. Kesireddy was arrested by the AP SIT in 2025 and the Andhra Pradesh High Court granted him bail on April 7, 2026. On June 11, the Enforcement Directorate conducted fresh raids at his residence in Nanakramguda, Hyderabad, and arrested him again — giving him approximately two months of freedom between his two custody spells. The hashtag #EDArrestsJaganAide trended on Indian Twitter. Jagan Mohan Reddy, whose government's entire liquor apparatus is now under investigation, has not commented publicly on whether the man he appointed to run it is, in some sense, running it still.
