A man who spent 14 years as a daily wager before the government regularized his position has since acquired 6 kg of gold, 5 kg of silver, and 18 properties across three cities. The system works — just not the way anyone intended.
On April 11, Lokayukta teams simultaneously raided seven locations connected to Ajaysingh Bapusingh Rajapur, an Assistant Executive Engineer in Belagavi's District Urban Development Cell. What they found reads like a hostile takeover prospectus: 5.96 kg of gold, 5 kg of silver, fixed deposits worth Rs 3.12 crore, luxury vehicles, and 18 properties scattered across Savadatti, Hukkeri, and Hubballi — totaling over Rs 14 crore. The twist? Rajapur started as a daily wage worker in 1992, stayed that way until 2006, got regularized in 2008, and then climbed through Junior Engineer, Assistant Engineer, to AEE. Somewhere between the regularization and the 18th property, the career trajectory stopped being about civil engineering and started being about financial engineering.
