What happened
Under the 'streamlined' Income Tax Act of 2025-26, the tax department has started sending out what can only be described as 'Passive-Aggressive Wellness Checks.' Taxpayers are receiving notices demanding a 'provisional computation' and a 'reason for negative variation' in cases where they have consistently paid zero advance tax. Essentially, the bureaucracy is so lonely it is now demanding you explain why you haven't received a massive promotion or found a pot of gold since 2024.
