The odd part

The government officially accepted resignations from 2025 in March 2026, just to ensure the paperwork didn't feel rushed.

What happened

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has redefined the concept of 'better late than never' by issuing office orders in March 2026 to accept the technical resignations of seven IRS officers who had already left in August 2025. By the time the files were signed, the officers had likely finished their probation in entirely different services. This seven-month delay ensures that the Indian bureaucracy remains the only place on earth where you can be legally employed at a job you quit half a year ago, essentially making these 'Ghost Officers' the most efficient workers in the department.
