The Madras High Court ordered certification; a higher bench stayed the order. The film's plot — a common man who becomes a people's leader to dismantle corruption — was apparently too speculative for public consumption. On May 10, 2026, Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam swept to power with 108 seats and Vijay was sworn in as Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, becoming, by the standards of the film title, Jana Nayagan. As of June 2026, the CBFC is still deliberating whether Tamil Nadu audiences may watch the movie about the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
