What happened
On July 4, 2026, a Class 7 student at Government Middle School, Krawah, in Ramban district's Banihal zone, fell asleep in his classroom on the last working day before a 15-day summer vacation. Staff locked up and left without checking the room. The boy was still locked inside around 8 pm, more than four hours after school hours ended, when a passerby heard him crying and freed him — filming the rescue in a video that went viral. The Chief Education Officer of Ramban responded by suspending the school's entire staff and ordering a three-member inquiry panel, calling it 'gross negligence and dereliction of duty.' No one has yet explained how an entire staff, rather than whoever skipped the final classroom check, ends up collectively responsible for one closed door.
