The odd part
The logic is simple: if the garbage piles high enough, the councilors need higher allowances to afford the taller ladders needed to see over them.
What happened
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) 2026-27 budget has masterfully addressed the city's 3,000-tonne daily garbage backlog. Instead of investing in trucks, the budget proposes increasing the daily sitting allowance for councilors from ₹300 to ₹3,000 and boosting the Municipal Commissioner's discretionary spending power tenfold to ₹50 crore. While 35% of engineering posts remain vacant and roads remain cratered, the budget ensures that the officials tasked with ignoring these problems are at least well-compensated for their efforts.
