What happened
An NDTV ground investigation found that Shri Ram College, a B.Ed institute affiliated with Bhopal's Barkatullah University, doesn't physically exist at its registered address in Mugaliya Kot village — just barren land, with hoardings for an unrelated institution nearby. It isn't an isolated case: inspections across Barkatullah University's 120-plus affiliated private B.Ed colleges found irregularities at 25, including institutes operating from undisclosed locations or tucked inside unrelated school campuses, and 82 colleges were marked "OK" for admissions on the state portal before the university's Executive Council had even formally approved them. The Centre's National Council for Teacher Education has now formed a five-member committee, led by former Vice-Chancellor H.C.S. Rathore, to inspect the colleges and report back within five working days of the July 15 order — while Madhya Pradesh's 600-plus teacher-training institutes keep enrolling close to 48,000 B.Ed students a year.
