A massive construction pit dug in 2004 for a 'Sports City' remains open and water-filled in 2026, successfully outlasting multiple Chief Ministers and global recessions.
The Noida Authority has successfully preserved a 22-year-old unmarked pit as a 'monument to stalled infrastructure' after a 27-year-old IT professional tragically drowned in it. The pit, part of a project first proposed in 2004, has become a permanent feature of the local landscape, proving that in India, a hole in the ground is more durable than the contracts that created it. While officials formed a 'Special Investigation Team' (SIT) for the umpteenth time, residents are concerned the pit might soon be granted 'heritage site' status to avoid the paperwork required to fill it.
