What happened
On Sunday, July 5, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police arrested 22-year-old Biswajit Sahu of Jagatpur, Cuttack district, for circulating an AI-generated, morphed video with obscene and defamatory content targeting Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Two days later, on Tuesday, July 7, the same commissionerate arrested 19-year-old Manoranjan Pradhan of Patakumunda village in Angul district for a separate AI-generated video, also obscene and defamatory, aimed at the Chief Minister and other constitutional dignitaries. The two cases are unconnected beyond sharing a target and a technology; both men were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act provisions. A BJP delegation separately filed its own cyber-crime complaint over yet another set of objectionable posts about the CM the same week. Three complaints, two arrests, one Chief Minister's face doing all the work.
