The odd part

In June 2025, Dhiman Chakma was caught allegedly mid-bribe and found with ₹47 lakh in undeclared cash at home. By May 2026, he was reinstated as Deputy Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management. The trial is ongoing.

What happened

On June 8, 2025, Odisha Vigilance officials arrested Dhiman Chakma, a 2021-batch IAS officer serving as Sub-Collector of Dharmagarh, after allegedly catching him accepting a ₹10 lakh bribe at his official residence. A subsequent search reportedly recovered another ₹47 lakh in cash from his home. He was suspended, sent to judicial custody, and later granted conditional bail by the Orissa High Court — with both a departmental inquiry and a criminal case before the Vigilance Court proceeding independently. On May 21, 2026, the Odisha government issued an order reinstating Chakma as Deputy Secretary in the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. The government helpfully noted that his future in the civil service remains contingent upon the final verdict of the court. His new portfolio covers the same domain from which his alleged bribery was drawn.
