The odd part

India's Seed Corporation Director was appointed to protect farmers from fake seeds. He lasted four months before the Anti-Corruption Bureau found Rs 1.59 crore at his house and another Rs 85 lakh in transit on a bus.

What happened

On February 10, 2026, Jugal Kishore Bishnoi was appointed non-official director on the board of the Rajasthan State Seed Corporation, a body tasked with ensuring quality seed supply to farmers. By June 7, the Anti-Corruption Bureau had detained him in a Rs 2.44 crore bribery case. The ACB found that Bishnoi allegedly helped suppress an ongoing case against Gajraj-brand groundnut seeds — substandard stock that had been seized and the sales premises sealed. The accused attempted to bribe officials to release the seeds back to the market and transport them to Gujarat. The ACB intercepted Rs 85 lakh on a bus and recovered another Rs 1.59 crore at the director's residence. The Rajasthan government subsequently removed Bishnoi from the RSSC board to "uphold transparency, accountability, and public trust." The seeds he was appointed to safeguard remained seized. The transparency he was appointed to uphold had been cash-in-transit.
