The odd part

India's Communications Minister has discovered the cure for a 51-degree heatwave: keep an Allium cepa in your pocket, preferably while not sitting in your air-conditioned ministerial vehicle. Netizens contradicted the no-AC claim with footage of him sitting in one.

What happened

Speaking in Shivpuri on Sunday, Union Minister of Communications and DoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia advised citizens facing IMD-flagged severe heatwave conditions across Punjab, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Gujarat to keep an onion in their pocket and avoid air conditioning, citing his 'Chambal skin' as immunity to 51-degree May heat. 'I don't use air conditioning in my car, nor do I sit in an air-conditioned environment,' he said — a claim several X users promptly contradicted with footage of his own AC-equipped convoy. 'As Ayurveda progresses, we shouldn't forget these things,' the minister concluded. India's hospitals are currently treating heatstroke admissions with IV fluids and cooling, but presumably they are open to switching to onions if the Ministry of Communications puts that on a billboard.
