What happened
Sikkim's peak tourist season runs April through June, when the small Himalayan state is at maximum capacity for visitors. This year, the cooking gas ran out. Hotels and restaurants that routinely needed two commercial LPG cylinders per day were being rationed to one per week, forcing them to serve guests dry or limited food instead of actual meals. A BJP delegation formally visited the State Trading Corporation of Sikkim in Gangtok in June to demand urgent answers. The government attributed the crisis to reduced bottling plant supplies compounded by West Asia conflict logistics. A central government official then helpfully clarified that there was no real shortage — residents were simply panic-buying gas in the absence of gas. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang chaired a high-level review meeting. The tourism season continued.
