What happened
The Tripura government, in partnership with the Union Agriculture Ministry and the DONER Ministry, has announced the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026 — billed as India's first international pineapple exhibition. It will run June 27–29 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, which is located in neither a pineapple-growing region nor in Tripura. The state's GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, cultivated across 12,097 hectares of Tripura's hills by local farmers, will make the trip to the capital for the occasion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to inaugurate the festival; Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to attend — both of whom are conveniently already in Delhi. A Rs 236 crore Mission Queen Pineapple was also launched in Delhi in May, to improve cultivation, processing, and export infrastructure back in Tripura, for a fruit that apparently needs to leave the state to get noticed.
