The odd part

Tripura's tribal council election delivered crude bomb blasts near polling stations, forcible removal of poll agents from every major party, EVM malfunctions, and a BJP MLA allegedly standing inside a booth during voting. Turnout: 83.52%. You'd think the explosions would be a deterrent, but apparently not.

What happened

The TTAADC election on April 12, 2026 was democracy at its most physical. In Boxanagar, crude bombs were hurled near a polling station at Jaharjala Senior Basic School, allegedly backed by BJP MLA Tafajjal Hossain — who was himself spotted physically present at a booth during voting hours, a clear MCC violation. In Takarjala, BJP candidate Nirmal Debbarma's vehicle was vandalized and CRPF had to disperse a mob. Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury alleged BJP poll agents were forcibly removed from booths in Kuyai Chanbari; CPI(M) said their agents were thrown out too. EVMs malfunctioned in five constituencies. The State Election Commission ordered re-polling in three booths. Despite all this, 7,94,779 of 9,51,613 registered voters showed up. Results on April 17.
