What happened
The Supreme Court has stepped in to stay the UGC’s 'Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions Regulations, 2026.' In a masterclass of administrative irony, the UGC designed an equity roadmap that explicitly denied the same protections to general category students. The court found it slightly confusing that a regulation meant to prevent discrimination was, in fact, being accused of discrimination. The UGC is reportedly 'shocked' that the definition of equity involves everyone, rather than just a curated list of demographics.
