Methodology & Sources

Maturity is computed by adding the yearly contribution at the start of each financial year and compounding the running balance once per year at the prevailing rate, i.e. balance = (balance + yearly) * (1 + rate). PPF interest credits annually on March 31.

Default rate of 7.1% p.a. is the small-savings rate notified by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance (NSI), unchanged in the most recent quarterly notification. Maximum yearly contribution is ₹1,50,000 per Section 80C / PPF Scheme 2019. PPF maturity and interest are tax-exempt (EEE).

Calculations are indicative. Verify the latest PPF rate at the official India Post / NSI notification before investing.
